The primary ministry of the Church is our liturgical life, to worship God and pray for the life of the world. The other ministries of the church flow from our Eucharistic communion.
Church School
St. Nicholas is blessed with many children! Our church school meets Sunday mornings at 9 AM (during Orthros) in four classes: Pre-K, Grades 1-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Adults attend Orthros during this time. Mary Fox is our current church school director. Register for church school classes here.
Choir and Chanters
Our liturgical music is primarily drawn from the Byzantine tradition historically used in Orthodox worship. Byzantine chant is monophonic, that is featuring a single melody accompanied by a drone note. Jesse Cox leads the chanters and choir to glorify God in words and melody. Speak to Jesse if you are interested in joining the choir!
St. Brigid Food Pantry
We collect donations for our food pantry year round, supplying to all who come to our door during office hours. By God's grace, our pantry has never been empty. The Little Free Pantry is an expansion of this ministry, providing non-perishables in the outdoor, self-serve pantry at all times. The food pantry is a parish-wide effort; however, a small committee oversees the ministry. Laura Wilson chairs the food pantry committee.
St. Nicholas Festival
Our annual festival is fun way to introduce our patron saint to the broader Jackson community. We feature foods from the different ethnic backgrounds represented in our parish: Greek, Arabic, Russian, and sometimes more! We have games, storytelling, bouncy houses, Byzantine music, and more. Alyson Violette chaired the Festival Committee in 2023.
