If this is your first visit to an Orthodox Church or to St. Nicholas, welcome!
Orthodox worship may be unlike anything you've ever experienced before! To help prepare you for a typical service, we've put together a list of some of the things we do that may be unfamiliar, adapted from Frederica Mathewes-Green's "12 Things I Wish I'd Known Before Entering an Orthodox Church."
At. St. Nicholas, our normal Sunday service begins with Orthros (or morning prayers) at 9 AM, followed by the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom around 10:15. Children are welcome to attend church school during Orthros (just ask a greeter to help you find the classroom). We have service books for the Divine Liturgy available in the narthex, and the bulletin includes the hymns that vary each week. You can also find the services of the day on the Archdiocesen website.
Whether you choose to follow the service text or just be present in the service, we hope you will enter into the joy of the Church with us! You are not required to do anything. Feel free to go at your own pace, and ask any questions you want. You are welcome here!
